- Listening'in dört görev türünü ve tuzaklarını tanımak
- Semboller ve kısaltmalarla kısa not almak
- Sinyal kelimelerle bir konuşmanın ana fikrini örneklerinden ayırmak
Listening bölümünde her kayıt yalnızca bir kez çalınır. Konuşmacılar Kuzey Amerika, İngiliz ve Avustralya aksanlarıyla konuşur; ekranda konuşanların görseli yer alır. Sorular kayıt bittikten sonra yazılı olarak gelir. Yani görevin her şeyi hatırlamak değil, doğru şeyleri yakalamaktır.
Dört görev türü
| Görev | Ne duyuyorsun? | Sorular |
|---|---|---|
| Listen and Choose a Response | Tek bir soru ya da cümle; ekranda yazılmaz | 4 yazılı cevaptan en uygununu seç |
| Listen to a Conversation | İki kişinin kısa konuşması (kampüs, günlük hayat) | 2 soru |
| Listen to an Announcement | Sınıfta ya da kampüste yaklaşık 40–85 kelimelik bir duyuru | Amaç, ayrıntılar, sonraki adım |
| Listen to an Academic Talk | Yaklaşık 100–250 kelimelik kısa bir ders ya da podcast | 4 soru |
Listen and Choose a Response: kısa ama sinsi
Where yer, When zaman sorar.
- 3Dolaylı cevaplardan korkma
Gerçek konuşmada cevaplar çoğu zaman dolaylıdır: Want to grab lunch? — I've got a meeting until two.
1) Do you mind if I borrow your notes from Tuesday's lecture?
(A) Not at all — I'll send you a photo of them tonight.
(B) I don't mind the lecture on Tuesdays.
(C) Yes, I bought a new notebook.
(D) It lasted about two hours.
2) I can't believe the library is closed again.
(A) I believe it's on the second floor.
(B) Yeah, they're replacing the heating system this week.
(C) Sure, I can close it for you.
(D) No, I haven't read it yet.
3) Why don't we review the chapter together after class?
(A) Because the chapter is really long.
(B) Sounds good — let's meet in the student lounge.
(C) We reviewed it last semester.
(D) The class starts at nine.

(A) kelimenin gerçek anlamındaki “neden” sorusunu cevaplıyor; tuzak budur.
Not alma: az yaz, çok dinle
Not al, ama yalnızca işe yaradığında. Listen and Choose a Response sırasında hiçbir şey yazma; cümle çok kısadır. Akademik konuşmada konuyu, ana fikirleri ve örnekleri not et. Sınav merkezinde karalama kâğıdı verilir; evde beyaz tahta ya da şeffaf dosyadaki kâğıt kullanılır.
| Sembol | Anlamı |
|---|---|
| ↑ / ↓ | artar / azalır |
| → | yol açar, neden olur |
| = / ≠ | demektir / farklıdır |
| b/c | çünkü (because) |
| e.g. | örneğin |
| w/ , w/o | ile / … olmadan |
| vs | karşıtlık, karşılaştırma |
| ! | önemli, konuşmacı vurguladı |
Sinyal kelimeler
| Sinyal | Ne bildirir? |
|---|---|
| Today I want to talk about … / So, what is …? | konu, ana fikir |
| For example / Take … for instance | örnek |
| However / But / On the other hand | karşıtlık |
| As a result / So / That's why | neden–sonuç |
| First … Next … Finally … | sıralama |
| You might think …, but … | yaygın bir yanlış inancın düzeltilmesi (sık sorulur) |
| In other words / What I mean is … | aynı fikri başka sözlerle söylemek |
| Anyway, back to …
Narrator: Listen to part of a talk in a geography class.
Professor: OK, last time we talked about how rivers carry sediment — sand, mud and small stones. Today I want to look at what happens at the end of a river's journey. When a river flows into a sea or a lake, it slows down. And when water slows down, it can't carry as much sediment, so the sediment drops to the bottom. Over many years, these deposits can build new land. We call this new land a delta. Now, you might think every large river builds a delta, but that's not the case. If the waves and currents where the river meets the sea are strong, they carry the sediment away before it can pile up. The Volga is a good example of the opposite situation: it flows into the Caspian Sea, where tides are very weak, and it has built a huge delta. So a delta is really the result of a competition between the river and the sea.
1) What is the talk mainly about?
(A) How deltas form and why some rivers do not have them
(B) Why the Caspian Sea has weak tides
(C) How to measure sediment in rivers
(D) The history of the Volga region
2) Why does the professor mention the Volga?
(A) To show a river that has no delta
(B) To give an example of a delta that formed where the sea is calm
(C) To compare the Caspian Sea with the oceans
(D) To explain how tides are measured
3) What does the professor imply by saying you might think every large river builds a delta, but that's not the case?
(A) Large rivers carry little sediment.
(B) Students often confuse deltas and lakes.
(C) The size of a river alone does not decide whether a delta forms.
(D) Most large rivers have no delta.

DELTA | nehir yavaşlar → tortu dibe → yeni kara
! her büyük nehir ≠ delta | güçlü dalga/akıntı → tortu taşınır
e.g. Volga → Hazar (zayıf gelgit) → büyük delta
sonuç: delta = nehir vs deniz
1) (A) Konu Today I want to look at… ile verilir: deltaların nasıl oluştuğu ve neden her nehirde olmadığı.
(A) tuzaktır: Volga'nın deltası var.
3) (C) You might think…, but… yanlış bir inancı düzeltir: deltanın oluşması yalnızca nehrin büyüklüğüne değil, denizin gücüne de bağlıdır.
- Listen and Choose a Response, 47 sorunun 15–19'unu oluşturur: işlevi yakala, ses tuzaklarından kaç.
- Do you mind…? sorusuna Not at all izin demektir; Why don't we…? bir öneridir.
- Notlar kısa olsun: iki sütun, semboller, yalnızca anahtar kelimeler.
- Sinyal kelimeler (for example, however, you might think… but) soruların nereden geleceğini gösterir.
