On a long trip the fuel runs low, a passenger feels ill, a tyre goes flat — how far is the place you need? Service signs tell you where such facilities are on the road (Article 67.I). They neither forbid nor require anything — they only inform.
Shape and position
A service sign is a rectangle with a wide blue border, with the symbol on a white field (Article 67.II). The blue strip below may give the distance to the facility (for example «800 m»).
| Where | How far ahead |
|---|---|
| In built-up areas | right by the facility or where you turn to it; in advance — 100–150 m |
| Outside built-up areas | 60–80 km, 15–20 km and 400–800 m ahead |
The signs
- 6.1 first-aid station (red cross), 6.2 hospital — two different places: 6.1 first aid, 6.2 a hospital.
- 6.3 filling station, 6.4 vehicle service, 6.5 car wash, 6.6 telephone.
- 6.7 restaurant, 6.8 drinking water, 6.9 hotel or motel, 6.10 camping, 6.11 rest area.
- 6.12 permanent road police post, 6.13 police station, 6.14 information point, 6.15 toilet, 6.16 beach.
Running out of fuel
Problem
Aysel is driving from Baku to Quba. At the roadside she sees sign 6.3 with «400 m» underneath; a while earlier the same sign said «15 km». What do the signs tell her?
